The Waskesiu Foundation Inc. Our Background &
Our Objectives
When the Foundation was first
created, its charitable objects were restricted "to
providing facilities for recreation, social,
cultural and other like activities to the residents
and visitors of Waskesiu".
More recently, the Board of WFI chose to broaden its
charitable objects, in order to pursue additional charitable
activities that will benefit the community of Waskesiu
and its immediately surrounding area.
As such in 2003, after obtaining necessary approvals
from the CRA, WFI formally amended its objects and purposes.
In practical terms, funds raised by WFI can, at the
discretion of WTESI's Board of Directors, now be spent
by WFI on any of the following:
(1) providing support for facilities for
recreational, social, cultural and other like activities
for visitors to, or residents of, Waskesiu;
(2) funding the cost of environmental assessments
relating to Waskesiu, Prince Albert National Park;
(3) funding the cost of implementing activities
that are adopted and approved by Parks Canada Agency
under the Waskesiu "vegetation management plan";
(4) gifts to Parks Canada Agency to help fund
activities or programs undertaken by Parks Canada Agency
within or affecting Waskesiu;
(5) tree-planting in Waskesiu;
(6) activities undertaken for the protection
and/or preservation of the environment, including protecting
and preserving trees and other vegetation within, and
in the area immediately surrounding, Waskesiu.

| Our
Volunteers
WFI undertakes its work with
a view to bettering Canadian society, and without any
expectation of receiving monetary or other benefits
in return.
WFI relies totally on volunteers, has no paid
employees on staff, and has no intention of hiring paid
staff, consultants or employees (other than independent
professional accounting advisors to perform accounting
and/or auditing functions as required by law).
In carrying out its activities, the WFI volunteers work
with, among others: representatives of the Government
of Canada (including Parks Canada Agency); the elected
representatives on the Waskesiu Community Council; and
other non-profit community organizations based in and
around Waskesiu (including the Waskesiu Cabin Owners'
Association Inc., the P.A.N.P. Cottage Owners' Association
Inc., Friends of Prince Albert National Park, and the
Coalition of Park Supporters Inc..
The motive for these initiatives is not
associated in any way with the personal gain of WFI's
members, officers or directors - rather it is solely
aimed at achieving WFI's goals of protecting and enhancing
community facilities and the environment in the Waskesiu
community and the area immediately surrounding Waskesiu,
Prince Albert National Park.
Charitable Activities
WFI seeks donations so as to
directly pursue its objects. WFI also makes financial
contributions towards activities and work being undertaken
by other groups and organizations within the Waskesiu
community (including Parks Canada Agency) that fit within
WFI's charitable objects.
This has included funding in support of facilities (such
as the re-surfaced tennis courts) that are open to the public
and which benefit the community; funding environmental protection
and enhancement work (including tree planting, vegetation
enhancement and protection, and assisting Parks Canada Agency
to implement the Waskesiu vegetation management plan); and
helping to provide funding to carry out environmental assessment work.
WFI supports a park bench program that enables persons to have a park bench constructed in honor of family members, while receiving a tax receipt. WFI acknowledges memorial donations for park benches in regonition of Paul Horne, Lorraine Hamilton, and Frances Mildred Martin.
Non-Political
As a registered charity, WFI
will not engage in political activities to achieve its
objects. WFI does not intend to bring about legislative
change in Canada, nor will WFI be trying to
present a one sided view on controversial social issues.
