Waskesiu
Lake Marinas Adventure Centre can create custom tours that best
serve the needs of our clients. Our certified guides can take groups
of almost any size on interpretive tours departing from any of the
three marina sites located in Prince Albert National Park.
A Legends Wake, Following the Path of Grey
Owl"
Come with us on the journey that will leave
you with a new understanding of who Grew Owl was and how he lived
his life. Learn how the life of this trapper was changed by the realization
that nature cannot continue to support human beings unless humans
begin to support nature. This daylong journey follows the path that
Grey Owl would have taken to reach his home at "Beaver Lodge"
and in the manner that he traveled, by canoe. After navigating the
Kingsmere River Portage the journey travels 14km north along the Eastern
shore of Kingsmere Lake until reaching the North End Picnic Site where
the group will have lunch before setting out on the 3km hike to Grey
Owl's Cabin. This full days journey will take approximately 10hrs
to complete.
The Hanging Heart Lakes Interpretive Tour
Boat
Cruise the beautiful Hanging Heart Lakes in
comfort and style aboard the "Fern Matilda" our new 22ft
Sun Cruiser Pontoon Boat. While touring the Hanging Heart Lakes you
will experience some of the most beautiful scenery that the park has
to offer. On the tour your "Captain" will show you wild
rice stands, a bald eagles nest, and beaver lodges. While you explore
the lakes you will also learn about the natural, historical and cultural
features of the area.
Our Guides
We work very hard to assure that you have a
fun, educational experience but above all else, our first priority
is your safety. Our guides are certified by Prince Albert National
Park, have a minimum of a level one flat-water canoe certification,
first aide and years of paddling experience. Our staff are young adults
that have experience working at outdoor camps with large numbers of
youths. They are out door enthusiasts willing to share their experiences
from the many countries they have visited.
Our lead-paddling guide Scott
Nesbitt has worked for the marina for six years and is extremely
knowledgeable of Prince Albert National Park and Grey Owl, Archie
Balainey. Last year Scott had the privilege to take Mrs. Margaret
Winters to Grey
Owls Cabin. When Mrs. Winters was 17, she stayed the summer
at the cabin and typed the manuscript to Tales of an Empty Cabin
one of Grey Owls best-known books. For Scott, she was a wealth of
first hand information on life at the cabin with Anaherio and Archie
Balainey. Scott takes great pride in delivering our trips in the
safest, professional manner and he enjoys passing on his knowledge
to any eager client. Scott is a permanent residence of the area
and is the most qualified, knowledgeable and professional in all
aspects of life. We are very proud and lucky to have Scott head
our team our professional guides.
Jon
Moon or "Captain" Jon is a four-year veteran and heads
up the Hanging Heart Lakes Interpretive tours. Jon is an avid outdoorsman
and is a graduate of the Eco-Tourism program from SIAST Woodlands
Campus in Prince Albert. Jon is extremely knowledgeable of the wildlife
and the natural aspects of the Heart Lakes system and all of the
National Park. His warm personality and love of nature is heartfelt
during his fascinating interpretive tours. Jon is a true eco-tour
