Prince Albert National Park is open year round
and is renowned for its beautiful lakes, spectacular sunsets
and plentiful wildlife.
In the fall, the park is especially beautiful... the aspen turn to gold and the
sound of elk bugling rings out through the crisp, misty
cloak of dawn. A migrating flock of sandhill cranes
clatters overhead, unwinding their spiral path northwards.
A clear night invites star gazers to find their secluded
spot along the lakeshore to witness the dance of the
aurora reflected across the glassy surface.
With over 150 kilimetres of trails,
you can choose from an easy hour-long stroll through
a quiet sphagnum bog or take on a longer day hike. The
challenging Spruce River Highlands trail rewards with vistas of Anglin Lake while the Spruce
River wetland meanders far below. The Kingsmere
River trail takes you to the open jack pine
stand of Southend campground and picnic area on the
shore of Kingsmere Lake, a popular backcountry destination.
Take a scenic drive and hopefully catch
a glimpse of a wolf or a moose. The Narrows Road (that
runs along the southern shores of Waskesiu Lake) and
road to the Hanging Heart Lakes (that runs along the
northern shore) may provide wildlife viewing opportunities,
a variety of picnic spots where you can stretch your
legs along the beach, and an chance to breathe in the
moist, revitalizing air. While exploring the park, be
sure to climb the stairs of the Height of Land lookout
tower for a bird's eye view of some of the park's lakes,
rivers and hills.
Paddle in the park and enjoy the beauty of the many lakes and streams.
