Carla Flaman
Title: Communications
Manager
Interests: My
interest golfing, traveling (almost anywhere), triathlon
and marathon training, hiking and camping, skiing, time
with family and friends.
Residence: My
husband, Brent, and I live in Waskesiu Lake on Prospect
Point. We moved
to Waskesiu from Calgary (where we lived for four years)
in September 2003.
Family: I
have nine brothers and sisters. My husband Brent
is an international business consultant and works from our
home in Waskesiu. I am indeed very lucky.
Favourite things about Waskesiu:
While we really enjoyed the peaceful tranquility of the
winter season, we are delighted to be a part of the vibrant
spring and summer in the park!
First impressions of Waskesiu:
My first impression of Waskesiu is based on our first visit
to the park, during the August 2003 long weekend. The sun
was shining, water warm, streets alive with visitors. The
people we met were friendly and welcoming, and made us glad
to be from (and soon to be returning to) Saskatchewan.
During the weekend we tried to experience as much as we
could of PANP and enjoyed a few of the beaches, visited
many of the restaurant patios, play a couple rounds of golf
at the Lobstick, and explored a few of the hiking trails.
We knew we found 'home'.
Parks Canada employment:
We moved to Waskesiu from Calgary (where we lived
for four years) in September 2003.
Background:
My first job was with a provincial park in Saskatchewan
where I worked in the gates and as a marketing coordinator.
I loved the atmosphere, the challenging and rewarding work,
and the people. From here, I lived in:
------Ottawa where I worked
with the Canadian Cycling Association as their communication
and marketing coordinator;
------China where I worked
with the Canada China Business Council assisting Canadian
companies further their business endeavours in China, developed
communication materials for the Canadian business community
in China and assisted the Department of Foreign Affairs
in hosting government lead
business delegations from Canada;
-------Calgary where I worked
with a large international human resource consulting firm,
as a communication consultant;
-------and finally to Parks
Canada in September 2003 when I joined PANP.
Priorities In PANP:
I am delighted to be a part of the PANP team. During the
first year with
the park, I aim to work closely with park visitors and stakeholders
to increase two-way communication with the park, improve
internal communication, and to work closely with our communication
team to ensure hat we are working in ways that best serve
the public. An extensive communication plan details goals
for the coming years. I am fortunate to have the opportunity
to with my talented and knowledgeable colleagues who have
such a wealth of experience. I am also thrilled to work
with so many people who have made PANP their home.
Future Plans:
I plan on staying in PANP for a number of years and am always
interested in new opportunities and adventures. I've learned
that working with Parks is never boring!
I will complete a Masters of Communication Studies this
year and am interested in improving my French language skills.
