MANDATE

Friends of Prince Albert National Park is a volunteer, charitable, non-profit organization made up of individuals, organizations and businesses dedicated to the stewardship of the natural and cultural resources of Prince Albert National Park. The 'Friends' promote public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the national park. Their goal is to protect and promote a sustainable, healthy ecosystem.

Friends of Prince Albert National Park is committed to the protection of places that are significant examples of Canada's natural and cultural heritage. We believe this is best achieved by promoting public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment.

"Friend's" are a member of the Canadian Park's Partnership, a nonlobby, non-profit, charitable organization that supports park "Friend's" groups across Canada.

The Friends operate a nature bookshop in Waskesiu Here you will find nature related books, CD's and cassettes, and mementos related to the rich heritage of the park and area. The Friends offer educational programming to complement the services offered by the park.

If you are interested is supporting Friends of the Park by becoming a member, drop into the bookshop. A variety of membership categories are available.

Volunteers are greatly appreciated and needed. If you are interested in volunteering a few hours in the store or at some of our events please stop by the store and talk to us.

VISION AND GOALS

As Friends of the Park it is our hope and desire that everyone who visits Prince Albert National Park will have maximum enjoyment and appreciation for its natural beauty and cultural heritage, at the same time assisting in preserving its uniqueness for future generations.

Our many goals and objectives include:

*Continued development and operation of educational programming to complement the services offered by Prince Albert National Park.

*To encourage stewardship and involvement with the natural environment and cultural history in Prince Albert National Park.

*Continued development of the Bookshop, our retail sales outlet, and conduct and sponsor special events and services that help achieve the objectives of Friends of the Park.

*To accept, hold and disperse funds received by donations or other means and support research into the natural and cultural history of Prince Albert National Park.
Membership - $10.00.  Tax receipts issued for donations over $20.00.

What have we done?

Friends of the Park, incorporated in 1984, operates within Prince Albert National Park through an agreement signed with Parks Canada. Over the years Friends of the Park has:


*Produced several park-related publications including the park trail guide, bird list and Petey Pelican guides.

*Opened and operated the Bookshop in the Park, offering high quality field books and other items.

*Developed and continues to operate a children's program, which reaches over 300 people each summer.

*Ralsed funds and awareness for scientific research in the park including the Kingsmere River project.

*Aided and continues to support the Park with special event presentations such as Parks Day, Canada Day and Children's Festival.

*Presented Take-A-Hike, a National Parks Day event.

*Hosted many fine Saskatchewan authors for book readings.

*Presented the Banff Film Festival and Waterwalker Film Festival to Prince Albert National Park
