News Release
Anne Morin, PANP Superintendent,
has announced that Parks Canada has agreed to include the
application of BtK as part of the vegetation management plan
to be developed with the community council.
This approval is subject to an environmental
assessment, which was expected.
Parks Canada will be working with the Community
Council and, likely, other community stakeholders to develop
the plan to control the spruce budworm. There are many details
to be addressed, including the financial arrangements for
this initiative.
This decision is welcome news for Waskesiu
visitors. It is the result of a determined and cooperative
effort among the Waskesiu community and its major organizations.
The SAve Our Spruce Committee is extremely grateful for the
support of thousands of people including politicians and community
leaders across the province. The affection that all have shown
for Waskesiu demonstrates how important this place is to all
of us.
Save Our Spruce wishes to make special mention
of the work done by the Community Council. The positions they
took were carefully developed taking into account not only
the will of the majority but the views expressed by the minority.Their
leadership was acknowledged by Parks Canada as very important.
We need to support their efforts in the months ahead as there
is a lot of work still to be done.
This has been a difficult time for the Waskesiu
community. Having said that, we need to move forward and all
work together to make Waskesiu an even better place. SOS is
committed to work with the Community Council and Parks Canada
in the months ahead as the vegetation management plan is put
in place.
To all who worked with SOS, thank
you, thank you.
