March 31 st
Introduction:
In
October 2002, Parks Canada reached a policy decision to
consider the selective use of Btk, a biological pesticide,
to control spruce budworm in the community of Waskesiu within
Prince Albert National Park of Canada. Parks Canada and
the Waskesiu Community Council contracted Axys, an independent
consulting firm specializing in environmental projects,
to prepare an environmental screening report to determine
the appropriate methodology and assess the potential impacts
for this project. If there are any significant human health
or environmental impacts that cannot be successfully mitigated,
the project will not be approved.
The draft environmental screening report for the spraying
proposal will be available for public review for two weeks
starting on Monday March, 31 and ending on Friday April
11, 2003. Copies of the draft report will be distributed
to government and stakeholder groups and can be viewed at
park offices in Waskesiu or public libraries in Prince Albert
and Saskatoon.
Objective:
Parks
Canada will host open house information sessions on April
7th and 8th . The purpose of these Open House meetings is
to provide park users with an opportunity to view additional

report, will be available to receive your comments, listen
