This financial report is only part
of the SOS financial story. In addition to the above, SOS
has benefited from many contributions in kind for which no
reimbursements have been requested or made. At the risk of
forgetting some, the following are noted:
-
The SOS website - an incredibly
valuable tool - was developed and has been operated by
the Bryan Robertson family at no cost to SOS.
-
Initial expenditures related
to signage, Save Our Spruce t-shirts, newsletters, etc.
were financed by individuals at no cost to SOS
-
Costs associated with the
petition drive, both electronic and manual, were absorbed
by individuals at no cost to SOS
-
Important legal advice
was provided pro bono by Tom Gauley and Jim Kerby
-
Meeting space was provided
at no charge by the Chamber of Commerce and some Waskesiu
businesses
-
Expert advice, information
and guidance was provided by professionals at Sask Environment
and BioForest Technologies Inc. at no cost to SOS
-
No member of the SOS Leadership
group or others who have provided assistance have received
any remuneration for the countless hours devoted to this
project.
-
Costs related to long distance
phone calls, travel to meetings except as noted above,
office supplies, and other incidental expenses have been
absorbed at no cost to SOS.
-
Organizations such as the
Lobstick Golf Course, Cabin Owners' Association, Cottage
Owners' Association and CPS provided support through letters
and/or communications
to Parks Canada and political leaders.
In effect, this Save Our Spruce
initiative received broad community financial support in numerous
ways. SOS is deeply appreciative and the community will benefit
from those efforts.
However, the job is not yet
finished. Given the conclusions in the Environmental Assessment
report, SOS is optimistic that Parks Canada will be making
a positive decision regarding the spray program in the weeks
ahead.
Assuming a positive decision,
a fundraising drive will be undertaken to cover the community's
share [2/3rds] of the costs of the spray program. This drive
will be conducted through a Committee established by the Community
Council, on which SOS is represented.
PLEASE BE GENEROUS.
Respectfully submitted,
Herve Langlois
SOS Coordinator
