Waskesiu Community Council Minute Highlights - September 17,2004 1. Election of Officers Chairman - Don Ravis Vice-chair - Herve Langlois Committee Chairs Finance - Al Ross Website - Wayne Simpson Vegetation Management - Bryan Matheson Waskesiu Foundation Link - Don Ravis Townsite Governance - Herve Langlois Community and Management Plan - Peter Strawson Special Events - Nancy Archer 2. Clerk Position Due to an expanded role, it was decided to proceed with advertising the clerk position for the Council. Council expressed its appreciation to Jackie Doidge for the work done in the past year. 3. Junior Lobstick Several acts of vandalism and rowdyism were perpetrated during Junior Lobstick week. Ravis and Archer met with RCMP Sergeant Royea to express concerns about the lack of RCMP response to calls. There will be additional policing next year. The Lobstick Golf Course will require Junior Lobstick participants to sign a waiver requiring parental supervision during the tournament next year. A letter will be sent to the Lobstick and stakeholder groups requesting assistance to resolve this problem. 4. Corner of Waskesiu Drive and Montreal Drive In response to concerns about poor drainage on the corner, Superintendent Blair advised that improvements are being planned to alleviate the concern, including the construction of a new sidewalk. 5. Park Issues A Federal government program review will require further cuts in Parks operations. All programs are under review. The new boat launch is inder construction and will be completed htis fall. Parks employees, members of PSAC, are in a legal strike position which oculd affect operations in the near term. [Note: A settlement was reached on Thanksgiving weekend] 6. Website Operations Waskesiu.Org continues to draw considerable attention. It was agreed that advertising opportunities would be made available to all Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce members and those who had PANP business licenses, subject to time availability. 7. Meeting with Provincial and Federal Officials Ravis and Langlois reported on a trip to Regina at which time they met with Finance Minister Goodale's assistant and a provincial Municipal Affairs official. Infrastructure financing and governance issues were discussed. Both meetings went well. 8. Arbor Day It was reported that Arbor Day was very successful. Council passed a vote of appreciation to the Parks Canada staff for their efforts in making the day such a success. 9. Waskesiu Foundation The Waskesiu Foundation is in the final stages of being established. Council has approached several individuals to sit on the Foundation's Board of Directors and the Board hsould be finalized soon. 10. Chamber of Commerce Council received copies of the financial information tabled at the Chamber AGM. Council decided to contact the Chamber to determine their current position on the recreation programs in the community. |
